Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday, October 19 paid homage to the late singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg at Lakhidhar Bora Field, Dighalipukhuri, acknowledging the enduring impact of his art and vision on Assamese society.
Speaking at the memorial, Gogoi said, “This is not a time to celebrate. Our beloved artist left us far too early, leaving the people of Assam in deep grief. Even one month after his passing, his influence continues to resonate. Zubeen Garg led society fearlessly, guided by ideals rooted in love for Assam. If he were still with us, he would have taught us many things. We must continue to seek truth and justice, beyond politics.”
He emphasized that while Garg was apolitical, he had been a leader of Assamese society whose guidance and values remain unmatched. “People of Assam are still mourning his loss. We all seek the truth and demand that justice be served. It is the government’s duty to investigate thoroughly, collect all facts, and ensure charges are convincingly proven in court,” Gogoi added.
