The newly appointed President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Gaurav Gogoi was accorded a grand and heartfelt welcome by party workers and supporters during his visit to Morigaon on Monday, June 2.
A massive procession was organized from Barpujia to Morigaon town, with thousands of Congress workers lining the streets to greet the leader. Despite unfavourable weather conditions, the people of Morigaon turned out in large numbers to show their spontaneous support, an overwhelming gesture that deeply moved the APCC President.
Addressing the gathering, Gogoi expressed disappointment over the silence of the Narendra Modi-led central government regarding the ongoing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh. He stated that the Centre should have responded more firmly to such issues. Nonetheless, he remains hopeful that appropriate measures will be taken in the near future.
Responding to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s past remarks concerning Gogoi’s Pakistan visit, the Congress leader noted that after his reply, the Chief Minister has chosen to remain silent. In a subtle dig, Gogoi remarked that "they may continue their silence until September 10."
As the new state Congress president, Gogoi emphasized his intent to take the party forward through a grassroots approach. He pledged to work hand in hand with party workers across all levels and extend service to people from every section of society.
