Police in Gossaigaon have arrested two men accused of stealing inverters and solar batteries from hospitals and health centres across Kokrajhar district.
The suspects, identified as Ziarul Sheikh and Amir Ali Sheikh of Oxiguri village, were taken into custody late last night in an operation supported by CELCO Foundation and based on information from a secret source.
Police said the two had been involved in multiple thefts over an extended period, targeting batteries and inverters from medical facilities. Several stolen batteries were recovered during the operation.
The arrests come just days after 80 batteries were stolen overnight from the Gossaigaon RNB Civil Hospital. Authorities believe the pair is linked to thefts from at least 20 health centres in Kokrajhar district.
Officials say investigations are ongoing to determine whether other suspects were involved and to recover any remaining stolen property.
