Guwahati: 19 cattle seized, four vehicles impounded in Boko anti-smuggling operation

Assam police seized 19 cattle, a Mahindra pickup vehicle and three motorcycles during a late-night operation at Bondapara in Assam’s Kamrup district, police said on Tuesday, September 8.

The operation was carried out by personnel of Boko Police Station following inputs about the suspected transportation of cattle through the area. Police said the cattle were allegedly being transported from Assam through Meghalaya’s West Khasi Hills district, with the suspected intention of smuggling them further towards Bangladesh.

No person allegedly involved in the cattle transportation was apprehended during the operation, police said.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of Boko Police Station Officer-in-Charge Munna Pachani, with assistance from Atul Deka, in-charge of Hahim Police Outpost, and other police personnel.

During the interception, police seized a Mahindra pickup vehicle bearing registration number ML 07C 0232, which was allegedly being used to transport the cattle. Three motorcycles suspected to be linked to the operation were also impounded. Two of the motorcycles bear registration numbers AS 25 K 3808 and AS 25V 8056, while the third, a Pulsar motorcycle, was found without a number plate.

The seized cattle and vehicles were brought to Hahim Police Outpost. The cattle were subsequently handed over to a gaushala, police said.

Police sources said surveillance and enforcement against the illegal transportation and suspected smuggling of cattle have been intensified in the Boko area. Further action will be taken against those found involved in the illegal trade, they said.
