In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking in Assam, a joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) and Kamrup Police led to the seizure of a substantial consignment of heroin at Amingaon, officials said.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint team intercepted a Maruti Ertiga (registration number AS 01 BQ-5651) during a targeted operation. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of narcotics concealed ingeniously within the door panels, indicating a well-planned attempt to evade detection.
Authorities recovered 25 soap boxes containing heroin, weighing approximately 350 grams (excluding packaging). The seized contraband is estimated to have a street value of around Rs 3 crore.
Two individuals hailing from Manipur’s Churachandpur district were apprehended in connection with the case. The accused have been identified as Lamminthang Haokip (29), son of Zamkholun Haokip from M Songgel village, and Ginkglholal Haokip (31), son of Lunjang from Tuila village, both under the jurisdiction of Tuibong Police Station.
The operation was led by Kalyan Kumar Pathak, Additional Superintendent of Police, STF, who supervised the interception and subsequent seizure.
Officials confirmed that necessary legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused, and further investigation is underway to trace the origin and intended destination of the narcotics consignment.
