Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has projected a decisive victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections 2026, estimating that the alliance will secure between 90 and 100 seats in the State Assembly. He also indicated that the Opposition’s tally may remain limited to around 20 seats.
Outlining constituency-wise assessments, the Chief Minister said the NDA is poised to retain key constituencies across regions, including Lower Assam and Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD). He asserted that even if the victory margin narrows in Tihu, senior leader Chandramohan Patowary is expected to win. Sarma further noted that Nalbari remains firmly in the NDA’s favour, with the alliance likely to secure all three seats in the district.
Referring to Upper Assam, the Chief Minister acknowledged that Sivasagar would witness a closely fought triangular contest, particularly involving Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi. However, he maintained that the NDA would ultimately emerge victorious in the constituency.
Providing estimates of Opposition performance, Sarma said the Congress is unlikely to cross the 20-seat mark. He projected that the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) could secure between five and six seats, while the Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) may fail to open its account. Raijor Dal, he added, is expected to win only one seat, likely in Dhing.
The Chief Minister also expressed confidence in individual candidates, stating that Narayan Deka would win his seat. In Lower Assam, he identified Dhubri, Golokganj, and Bongaigaon, including Abhayapuri, as constituencies where the NDA is expected to perform strongly.
In Barpeta district, Sarma projected victories for the alliance in Barpeta, Bhawanipur, and Bajali constituencies. He further claimed that the NDA would secure all seats in the BTAD region, reinforcing its dominance in the Bodoland belt.
