Himanta Biswa Sarma takes stock of flood situation in Assam's Sivasagar, assures continued assistance

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday, August 4 visited flood-affected Sivasagar to review the prevailing situation, interact with affected residents and assess the government's ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures. During the visit, he emphasised the need for timely assistance, expedited damage assessment and continued support for families impacted by the floods.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Ministers Pijush Hazarika, Bimal Bora and Sushanta Borgohain, along with Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi.

At a programme held at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute in Sivasagar, the Chief Minister and the accompanying delegation met flood-affected residents to understand the challenges arising from the floods. Discussions focused on the extent of the damage and measures to strengthen relief efforts and extend additional assistance to affected families.

Sarma also heard grievances raised by flood victims and underscored the importance of ensuring that government relief reaches all eligible beneficiaries without delay. Relief cheques were distributed among affected residents during the programme.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the immediate priority remains providing relief to flood-hit families while carrying out detailed assessments of losses to facilitate further assistance. The Assam government has recently announced interim financial assistance for affected families in flood-affected districts, including Sivasagar, as part of its relief measures.
