Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi without naming him directly, ridiculing his recent remarks in Parliament related to India’s missile strike capabilities.
In a sharp jibe, Sarma sarcastically called Gogoi a “great scientist,” claiming his comments were more celebrated in Pakistan than in India.
Addressing the media, Sarma expressed deep disappointment, saying, “This is a matter of shame for the people of Assam. One of our MPs from Assam questioned why the Indian Air Force launched a missile on Pakistan from a distance and not from close range. According to him, India should have fired it up close, like it’s some sort of firecracker.”
Mocking the Congress MP further, the Chief Minister said, “You are such a great scientist that you are troubled by missile range. When our forces can strike from thousands of kilometres away, instead of applauding their capabilities, he chose to criticise them. That speech was cheered the loudest in Pakistan.”

Sarma went on to make personal accusations, alleging that the Congress MP has no love for India. “He never loved India. Three of his family members have foreign citizenship, and I can clearly say he will soon change his citizenship, too. That’s why he always speaks against India in Parliament.”
He added, “Jorhat and Sivasagar have contributed immensely to India’s freedom movement. It’s unfortunate that an MP from such a historic region is now being hailed as a hero in Pakistan. Every speech he has given since 2014 seems designed to help Pakistan.”
The Chief Minister’s remarks come in response to Gogoi’s criticism of India’s defence actions during a debate in Parliament, which the BJP has framed as unpatriotic and demoralising for the armed forces.
