Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was honoured with the Gopal Ata Award by the Bhawanipur Satra during his visit to Bhawanipur in Bajali district on March 24.
Sarma attended the Jan Ashirwad Yatra in the Bhawanipur area of the Sarbhog constituency, where he addressed a large gathering and interacted with supporters from atop his vehicle, distributing gamochas and receiving an enthusiastic response.
Projecting confidence ahead of the elections, the Chief Minister said the BJP candidate would secure a historic victory, asserting that public support is strongly in favour of the party. He also launched a sharp attack on the Indian National Congress, intensifying campaign rhetoric in the constituency.
Highlighting development commitments, Sarma assured that a flyover would be constructed in Bhawanipur. He further stated that around 1.5 lakh bighas of Satra land have already been cleared of encroachment, with an additional 500 bighas to be freed in the coming period.
On employment, Sarma reiterated that the government plans to provide jobs to two lakh youths and financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to 10 lakh unemployed individuals.
In the Bhowanipur-Sorbhog (No. 21) Assembly constituency, the CPIM which is an ally of Congress, has fielded Manoranjan Talukdar, while the All India United Democratic Front has nominated Farhad Ali.
The BJP is represented by Ranjeet Kumar Dass, setting the stage for a multi-cornered contest in the seat.
The visit reflects BJP’s intensified campaign push in Bajali as Assam heads toward the upcoming Assembly elections.
