Former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Borah has slammed the door on any weakened "APCC-R" faction, vowing loyalty only to the original Congress or nothing at all.
Resigning on February 16, Borah declared his readiness to return if senior leaders MP Pradyut Bordoloi and Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia issue a single call affirming the party's integrity, insisting it must remain the true APCC, not a diluted version tainted by compromise.
Borah laid bare his regrets and strategic missteps, admitting he "destroyed" the AIUDF through tactical brilliance, ending their alliance, allying with Akhil Gogoi, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, CPM, and CPIM. Yet, invoking the Bhagavad Gita's karma—"You reap what you sow", he warned this victory backfired, morphing Congress into "APCC-R."
He tied this to the Panchayat elections' fallout, spotlighting the Pahalgam terror attack where he demanded fierce revenge against Pakistan, while Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma branded Congress a haven for "Pakistani sympathizers," even hinting at arresting Gaurav Gogoi.
"The results in Jorhat and Titabor speak volumes—no proof needed in politics, only perception," Borah asserted. Post-elections, he became the "martyr," sacrificed amid attacks on opposition leaders. Unbowed, Borah awaits that decisive call, rejecting any party jump for now, and urging Congress to reclaim its nationalist core against external threats.
