‘I want Zubeen da to get justice’: Tanmoy Phukan continues testimony for second day

Singapore-based Assamese Tanmoy Phukan continued his testimony for the second consecutive day before the fast-track court in Guwahati in connection with the death of singer Zubeen Garg.

Phukan, who is associated with the Singapore Assam Association, was reportedly involved in organising the yacht party in Singapore that Garg attended before his death. Several other non-resident Assamese who were present at the party have already appeared before the court and recorded their statements.

Speaking to reporters after appearing before the court, Phukan said he would not disclose details of his testimony outside the judicial proceedings.

“I love Zubeen da very much. I have said whatever I have to in front of the court and now I cannot tell it outside,” he said.

Phukan said he believed that discussing the details outside court could affect the judicial process and hamper efforts to secure justice for Garg.

“I think it should be inside the court only if it comes out now as it might impact the whole judicial process and may hamper in getting justice,” he said.

He said he had been with Garg until the last moment and was in Guwahati to cooperate with the investigation.

“I love him very much and till the last moment I was with him. I will help in getting justice,” Phukan said.

He added that he respected both Garg and the court and therefore did not want to discuss the details of the case outside.

According to sources, Phukan had reportedly booked the yacht, while Talukdar, president of the Singapore Assam Association, had been informed about the party.
