Taking a dig at Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that if Akhil Gogoi joins the BJP, then he would have to divorce his wife and join Raijor Dal.
Dismissing the possibility of their political paths converging, chief minister Sarma on Monday suggested that Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Kumar Borah might be inching closer to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Referring to Borah’s recent comments about using a government vehicle for his travel to Dispur, Sarma remarked, “Borah’s readiness to use a government vehicle and head to Dispur can be interpreted as a sign of willingness to join the BJP, as it is the BJP that will continue to govern from Dispur.”
The Chief Minister further contrasted Borah’s stance with that of the Leader of the Opposition, Debabrata Saikia, who, he noted, has made no such overtures.
Shifting to the ongoing crackdown on anti-nationals and Pakistan defenders on social media, Sarma confirmed that over 40 individuals have been arrested for allegedly making anti-national statements. He added that strict legal actions are underway, including the application of the National Security Act (NSA) against several of the accused, signaling the government’s tough stance against activities deemed to threaten national integrity.
