Expressions of support for singer Zubeen Garg marked a gathering at Zubeen Udyan in Nagaon town on Saturday evening, May 23, where attendees reiterated demands for justice for the artist.
Garima Garg, wife of Zubeen Garg, along with members of the band Jontro, visited the venue and offered floral tributes to a statue of the singer in the presence of Nagaon MLA Rupak Sarmah.
Jontro, is a musical tribute band formed by Zubeen Garg’s long-time co-artistes and core musicians.
Addressing those gathered, Garima Garg questioned the denial of justice to the singer. “If Zubeen Garg does not get justice, then who will?” she said, adding that if justice is not delivered in his case, “it would be better to remove the word ‘justice’ from our dictionary altogether”.
Partha Pratim Goswami, a long-time bandmate and close associate of the Assamese music icon, said the statue would truly “come alive” on the day the singer receives justice.
“On that day, I will be the first person to light a lamp here in his honour,” he said.
Participants at the event appreciated the initiative to honour the singer and renewed calls seeking justice for him. The gathering witnessed emotional scenes as admirers and supporters assembled in solidarity with the artist.
