A two-day Indo-Austrian child health camp was organised at Chandamari in Helem, Gohpur, Assam, on October 23 and 24, bringing together Indian doctors and paediatric specialists from Austria to provide medical care to children, particularly those from economically disadvantaged families.
The camp included health check-ups, medical consultations and the distribution of medicines. As part of the initiative, wheelchairs were also distributed to 20 children and adolescents with disabilities.
The initiative, organised at the initiative of non-resident Indian Yashobanta Mahanta, aimed to improve access to healthcare for children in rural areas while facilitating professional exchange between Indian and Austrian medical practitioners.
Doctors from both countries participated in the camp, which provided an opportunity to share medical knowledge and clinical experience. The collaboration also sought to strengthen healthcare support for children in underserved communities.
The initiative focused on addressing children's healthcare needs, with particular emphasis on nutrition, health awareness and the timely identification of illnesses. Such interventions are important in rural areas where access to specialised medical services can be limited.
The distribution of wheelchairs to children and adolescents with disabilities was another key component of the camp, aimed at supporting their mobility needs.
The two-day programme highlighted the role of international medical collaboration and community-led initiatives in extending healthcare services to children in rural Assam.
