The Margherita Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society, in collaboration with the Assam Cancer Care Foundation and The Hans Foundation, organized a comprehensive free medical and cancer screening camp at Namdang Tea Estate Hospital under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Hindustan Oil Exploration Company Limited.
The camp, held on Saturday, aimed to raise awareness and provide screening for oral cavity, cervical, and breast cancers among the tea garden workers. Alongside cancer screening, free medical consultations, health check-ups, and medicines were provided to all participants.
Indian Red Cross Society Margherita Sub-District Branch Secretary Pabitra Borgohain inaugurated the program and addressed the gathering, emphasizing the need for early detection and awareness about cancer. He highlighted the rising prevalence of cancer, its symptoms, and the importance of timely treatment, noting that such outreach programs are vital for community health improvement.
Specialist doctors — Dr. Mamta Upadhyay from Assam Cancer Care Foundation and Dr. Jinand Singh from The Hans Foundation — along with dedicated medical staff, conducted the screenings and interacted with the tea garden workers, providing personalized advice and preventive health guidance.
During the camp, nearly 200 tea workers underwent medical examinations for oral, breast, and cervical cancer. Additionally, patients were screened for high blood pressure, diabetes, anemia during pregnancy, and other health conditions. All the attendees received free medicines and health consultations as part of the initiative.
The event marked a successful collaboration between health organizations and industry partners, reflecting a strong commitment toward community welfare and preventive healthcare in the tea garden region of Margherita.
