Jai Bharat-JMM candidate Garnel Minz promises ST status, wage hike for tea tribe community in Margherita

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is scheduled to attend a public meeting on April 1 in Margherita under Tinsukia district, Assam where more than 50,000 people are expected to gather for an election campaign organised by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and the Jai Bharat Party.

The event comes amid intensified campaigning in Assam, with Soren participating in multiple outreach programmes alongside party leaders in recent days.

Ahead of the rally, a Booth Level Agents (BLA) training programme witnessed participation from hundreds of workers on Sunday, March 29 in support of Garnel Minz, the nominated candidate from the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC), representing the alliance of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Jai Bharat Party.

Addressing the gathering, Garnel Minz highlighted longstanding issues faced by tea tribe communities and Adivasi groups
in the region. He outlined key commitments, including granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, distribution of land pattas, wage increases for tea garden workers, and rehabilitation measures for flood-affected residents.

Minz stated that a total of 223 booths have been established across the 83rd Margherita LAC, adding that the training programme saw significant participation from booth-level representatives.

Reiterating his agenda, the candidate said that challenges in the constituency extend beyond tea tribes and Adivasi communities, affecting multiple sections of society in Margherita. He emphasised that the campaign is focused on addressing these issues through targeted policy measures.

Party organisers indicated that the large-scale mobilisation and structured booth-level preparations reflect a coordinated campaign strategy by the alliance to contest the elections against the Bharatiya Janata Party.
