Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, in an uncut and candid media interaction, declared that he has maintained an unblemished record since joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2015.
“With full responsibility, I can say, since the day I joined BJP, nobody can show or prove any wrongdoing from my side,” Baruah stated.
Reflecting on his earlier political career, he admitted that certain actions undertaken during his time in the Congress party, especially within the Youth Congress, continue to haunt him.
“The Congress party must take responsibility,” he said, claiming those acts were done as per party directives. “It’s been 10 years since I joined BJP, and I can proudly say I haven’t done any illegal or unethical job,” he added.

Baruah’s remarks come amid renewed political heat after allegations surfaced that a state minister received Rs 50 lakh in public funds for a private dairy farm under a government scheme—sparking sharp attacks from the opposition Congress.
Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi launched a scathing criticism against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing the government of institutionalised favouritism.
“Rs 50 lakh of taxpayer money was handed to a minister for his private dairy farm in Assam. The Chief Minister's brazen response? ‘What will they do after losing power?’” Gogoi posted on social media platform X.
He further alleged that political beneficiaries are being prioritised over genuinely needy citizens, calling it a gross failure of governance and a betrayal of public trust. The controversy has added fuel to the opposition's campaign against the BJP-led administration in Assam.
