Jorhat murder case prime accused shot in police encounter, hospitalised

Prime accused in the sensational Jorhat murder case, Abdul Noor alias Riju, was reportedly shot during a police encounter while allegedly trying to escape custody.

 

According to sources, the incident occurred at night while he was being taken for investigation.

 

Abdul Noor, despite repeated warnings from the police, did not stop attempts to flee, prompting them to open fire. 

 

After a bullet hit him in the leg, he was admitted to Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH). He is currently undergoing treatment under police supervision.

 

The encounter follows a horrific incident on April 20 night when 34-year-old Debanga Bhusan Barua was lynched by a mob near a Bihu function in Chandan Nagar of Jorhat town.

 

Barua had reportedly intervened to stop a fight among a group of teenagers when the situation turned violent. The teenagers turned on him, beating him mercilessly. He later died of his injuries at a private hospital.

 

The incident has created a stir in the area. Police have stated that a detailed investigation is underway.
