Kamrup District Commissioner (DC) Dev Kumar Mishra on Sunday undertook an inspection tour of Nam-Tarabari and Upper Tarabari, two remote settlements along the Assam–Meghalaya border in Kamrup district, to assess the long-pending boundary dispute and engage with local residents.
The DC’s visit was aimed at reviewing the ground situation and gathering first-hand inputs from the community. The Nam-Tarabari and Upper Tarabari areas, despite being geographically within Assam, have for years been the subject of contentious claims by certain sections from Meghalaya. These claims, locals allege, are backed by persistent encroachment attempts.
Additional District Commissioner Garg Mohan Das, Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Pathak, and senior officials from multiple departments accompanied Mishra during the inspection.
Speaking to locals, the district administration assured that steps were being taken to strengthen Assam’s administrative presence and resolve the dispute through official channels.
On his return, DC Mishra also visited the under-construction Boko–Chaygaon Sub-Divisional Commissioner’s office at Boko, which is slated for inauguration on August 12.
