BJP candidates Sushanta Borgohain and Kushal Dowari filed their nomination papers on March 23, from the Assam's Dimow and Sivasagar Assembly constituencies respectively.
Thousands of supporters from different communities took part in a massive rally, escorting both candidates to the Sivasagar District Commissioner’s office for the filing of nominations.
Speaking to the media, Sushanta Borgohain said he was overwhelmed by the public response, adding that he had never witnessed such support in any previous election. He expressed confidence of winning with a bigger margin than his previous victory of 33,000 votes and named Ajay Gogoi as his main opponent this time.
He also stated that in party politics, candidates sometimes have to engage in friendly contests in the interest of the organisation.
Meanwhile, after days of speculation, the BJP fielded Kushal Dowari from the Sivasagar constituency. Earlier, the NDA alliance had allocated the seat to AGP candidate Pradip Hazarika, but the BJP eventually nominated Dowari following pressure from party supporters.
Kushal Dowari thanked the party leadership and the people of the constituency for their support and expressed confidence ahead of the upcoming elections.
