A late-night firing incident triggered panic across South Hafani village in Assam’s South Karimganj constituency, after miscreants allegedly opened fire during a dispute linked to a mobile phone theft, leaving two persons seriously injured, police said.
According to initial reports, multiple rounds were fired, shattering the calm of the area and prompting immediate police response. Investigators recovered several empty cartridges from the scene, indicating the intensity of the firing.
One of the injured has been identified as Anowar Hussain, while the identity of the second victim is yet to be confirmed. Both were rushed for medical treatment, and their condition is reported to be serious.
The motive behind the firing remains under investigation. Senior Superintendent of Police Leena Doley reached the spot soon after the incident and reviewed the situation firsthand. Preliminary findings suggest that two pistols may have been used in the attack.
Police have intensified security and launched a detailed investigation to identify and apprehend those involved.
