Newly nominated All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) candidate Rejaul Karim Sarkar on Tuesday, March 10, launched his campaign pitch from Lengtisinga in Bongaigaon district, as he thanked the party leadership and targeted the Congress over recent political developments.
Sarkar, who has been fielded from the 17 No. Srijangram Assembly constituency by the All India United Democratic Front, said he remains indebted to party president Badruddin Ajmal for giving him the opportunity to continue working for the minority community after what he described as a humiliating exit from the Indian National Congress.
Speaking to reporters after receiving the party nomination, Sarkar recalled the circumstances under which he left the Congress, claiming that the AIUDF leadership stood by him during a difficult phase in his political career. He said Ajmal’s decision to nominate him from the Srijangram Assembly constituency reflects the party’s confidence in his ability to represent the aspirations of the people, particularly minorities.
Sarkar also raised concerns over what he termed as the “harassment” of minority communities during eviction drives conducted by the state government. He asserted that if elected, he would strongly raise such issues and work to safeguard the rights and dignity of affected communities.
Appealing directly to voters of the constituency, Sarkar urged residents to accept him not merely as a political representative but as “their own son,” promising to remain accessible and committed to addressing the problems faced by the people.
In a sharp political remark, Sarkar also took a swipe at the Congress, saying the party itself knows well who acts as an “agent of the BJP,” an apparent reference to ongoing political tensions and accusations exchanged between opposition parties in the state.
