Serious allegations have been levelled against the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) in Margherita, with locals accusing the department of negligence and inaction even as a looming danger threatens lives.
Citizens say the power office has turned into a “death trap” for residents by ignoring repeated warnings about hazardous live wires.
The concern stems from a large broken branch hanging over electrical wires along the busy Margherita–Alubari road. The branch, which could collapse at any moment, poses a grave threat of snapping the lines and triggering a major accident.
Local residents and commuters say they have been living in constant fear, particularly as this stretch is heavily used during morning and evening hours.

Despite several requests from conscious citizens, the Margherita APDCL office has allegedly remained unresponsive. Locals allege that neither assistant engineers nor linemen of the department have visited the site or taken preventive measures.
“We have informed them many times, but no one from the office has come to inspect or clear the branch. If something happens, who will take responsibility?” a resident asked.
On Tuesday morning, passersby, through the media, made an urgent appeal to the Margherita Co-District Commissioner, urging immediate intervention to remove the branch before disaster strikes.
Many fear that unless authorities act swiftly, Margherita could soon witness another tragic accident caused by official apathy.
