Married woman found dead under mysterious circumstances in Assam's Kokrajhar; husband and family absconding

A married woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Assam's Kokrajhar district, with her family alleging that she was murdered by her husband and in-laws. A case has been registered at Kokrajhar Sadar Police Station.

 

The deceased, Nasrin Sultana, was married around six years ago to Ajibur Rahman of Bamunigaon Part III under Kokrajhar Police Station. The marriage was solemnised as per social customs.

 

According to the woman’s family members, Nasrin was allegedly subjected to repeated physical and mental harassment by her husband and his family soon after marriage. Despite the alleged abuse, she continued living with them and later became the mother of two children.

 

Her family further alleged that Ajibur Rahman was attempting to enter into a second marriage and was involved in various anti-social activities. They claimed that when Nasrin objected, she was severely assaulted inside the house around 1 am on February 23. They suspect that she was killed and her body was later hung from the ceiling to make it appear as a suicide.

 

Family members pointed to visible injury marks on her head and different parts of her body, raising suspicion of foul play. They have also alleged that police have not taken adequate action in the matter.

 

Meanwhile, the husband and his family members are reportedly absconding. Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
