Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah holds meeting in Assam's Bongaigaon to tighten enforcement against tax evasion

Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah on Monday, July 20, chaired a high-level meeting in Bongaigaon to review measures aimed at curbing tax evasion through the illegal transportation of goods and announced that the State would intensify enforcement against such activities from August 1.
 

The meeting, held at the office of the Bongaigaon District Commissioner, was attended by the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of Bongaigaon, Chirang, Kokrajhar and Dhubri districts. Officials from the Forest, Taxation and Transport departments, along with transport operators and leading hardware traders, also participated.
 

The meeting focused on preventing the illegal transportation and sale of goods allegedly brought into the State in private vehicles and buses without payment of the applicable taxes.
 

Speaking after the meeting, Baruah said the State government would launch a coordinated enforcement drive from August 1 to curb tax evasion and illegal transportation of goods.
 

He said the Police, Taxation, Transport and Forest departments would jointly conduct inspections and enforcement operations across the region.
 

The Minister warned that anyone found transporting goods illegally to evade taxes would face immediate legal action.
 

Baruah also reviewed the role of transporters and traders in ensuring compliance with tax regulations and urged all stakeholders to cooperate with the authorities in preventing revenue loss to the State.
 

Following the meeting, the Minister also commented on the prevailing flood situation in Assam and said the government was continuing to monitor the situation and undertake relief measures in the affected areas.
