Assam Cabinet Minister Rameswar Teli on May 28 visited Dholmara village in Kokrajhar district and met the families of two minor girls whose bodies were recovered from a pond on May 21.
The deceased students were identified as Anamika Bara and Sarita Oraon. The incident has triggered concern among local residents and family members, with demands for a proper investigation into the deaths.
During the visit, the minister interacted with the bereaved families and local villagers, who expressed doubts over the circumstances surrounding the incident. Family members stated that they were finding it difficult to accept that the deaths were caused by drowning and urged authorities to conduct a fair and thorough investigation.
Speaking to the media, Rameswar Teli expressed grief over the incident and conveyed condolences to the families.
As part of government assistance, the minister handed over sanction letters providing financial aid of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the two deceased girls.
