Missing BJP booth president found dead in Assam's Sribhumi, suspected accused injured in police firing

A BJP booth president and social worker who went missing in Sribhumi district was found dead at an abandoned house near the Tripura border on Friday, August 14, with police suspecting murder.
 

The body of Bikash Dhar (52), a resident of Chagalmowa village under Bazaricherra police station, was recovered from an abandoned house in the Jogichora area under Lowaipowa GP, nearly two days after he went missing.
 

Police, acting on specific information, reached the spot and recovered the body. It was sent to the Sribhumi district headquarters hospital for post-mortem examination.
 

Multiple injury marks were found on Dhar's body, raising suspicion that he was murdered. The motive behind the suspected murder is yet to be established.
 

According to Sribhumi SSP Leena Doley, all the suspected persons involved in the case have been detained. She said one of the suspects attacked a police personnel while in custody, injuring him. Police then fired at the suspect's leg to prevent him from fleeing, following which he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
 

Dhar had reportedly left home on his motorcycle on Wednesday after receiving a phone call. He did not return and his mobile phone was found switched off. His family later lodged a missing person complaint at Bazaricherra police station.
 

Local MLA and state minister Krishnendu Paul met Dhar's family on Thursday and contacted the administration and police seeking his recovery.
 

Dhar's death has triggered grief and anger in the area, with local residents demanding a thorough investigation and strict punishment for those involved.
 

The investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances and motive behind the killing.
