MLA Akhil Gogoi acquitted in 2016 Kaziranga eviction case

Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi was acquitted by the Kaliabor Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate’s Court in a case registered in connection with the 2016 eviction drive at Kaziranga National Park.
The case was registered against Gogoi for allegedly obstructing the eviction process carried out in the Kaziranga National Park in 2016.
Three cases against the MLA were pending before the Kaliabor Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate’s Court. Of these, two cases had been clubbed together for trial.
Following his acquittal in the earlier case, the court also acquitted Gogoi in PRC Case No. 181/22.
Advocate Hashim Uddin Ahmed appeared on behalf of Gogoi and argued the case before the court.
The acquittal comes in connection with the cases stemming from protests and opposition to the eviction drive in Kaziranga in 2016.
