Tensions were reported in Dhubri town on October 10 after a man and his mother were allegedly assaulted by a group of individuals over an ongoing dispute. Police have detained several suspects for questioning in connection with the incident.
According to a complaint lodged by Akif Sarkar, son of Abidul Sarkar and a resident of Ward No. 9, the incident occurred at around 10 am when the accused, identified as Ashiruz Zaman and his alleged associates, arrived near his residence carrying sharp weapons.
The complaint alleged that the group damaged a light fitted to the boundary wall and hurled abuses at the family. When Akif and his mother came out to intervene, the situation allegedly escalated into a physical assault.
Both sustained injuries in the incident and were taken for medical treatment with the help of neighbours and local residents.
The complainant further alleged that the attackers threatened the family before fleeing the scene. He subsequently approached the police, seeking an investigation and legal action against Zaman and his alleged associates.
Following the complaint, personnel from Dhubri Sadar Police Station initiated an investigation and reportedly detained several individuals from the residence of one of the accused for questioning.
One suspect is still absconding, according to the information provided, and is alleged to have struck the victim with a bamboo stick.
