Nagaon bypoll: Assam minister Pijush Hazarika casts vote, confident of Debashish Sharma's victory

Assam Minister and BJP leader Pijush Hazarika on Tuesday, October 6 cast his vote at Morakolong LP School under the 52 No. Jagiroad SC (LAC) constituency during polling for the by-election to the No. 9 Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency.
After casting his vote, Hazarika expressed confidence in BJP candidate Debashish Sharma’s victory and predicted a substantial lead for the party from the Jagiroad assembly segment.
“Of the total vote polled in Jagiroad constituency, I assume, we will get 80-85 per cent vote. Considering that, we would be able to give a massive lead to Debashish Sharma from Jagiroad constituency and I am confident that Debashish Sharma will surely win the polls,” Hazarika said.
Polling is underway across the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, with a voter turnout of 37.82 per cent recorded till 11 am.
Among the eight Assembly segments, Laharighat recorded the highest turnout at 42.49 per cent, followed by Samaguri at 40.39 per cent, Rupohihat at 39.62 per cent and Dhing at 38.48 per cent.
Jagiroad recorded a turnout of 37.06 per cent, while Morigaon registered 37.25 per cent. Raha recorded 34.35 per cent turnout and Nagaon-Batadroba recorded the lowest turnout among the segments at 30.54 per cent.
The by-election was necessitated by the vacancy in the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat and is being closely watched in Assam, with the BJP, Congress and other political parties campaigning extensively across the constituency.
