Nagaon bypoll: Polling teams depart for 2307 stations, over 11500 personnel deployed

Polling teams on Monday, October 5 departed from designated distribution centres in Nagaon and Morigaon districts for their respective polling stations ahead of the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency by-election scheduled for Tuesday, with the administration deploying 11,535 polling and security personnel across 2,307 stations.
The polling personnel were dispatched from three locations. Teams assigned to the Raha and Nagaon-Batadroba Assembly constituencies left from Nagaon Government Higher Secondary Boys’ School, while those for Rupohihat, Samaguri and Dhing constituencies departed from Dawson Higher Secondary Multi-Purpose School in Nagaon. Teams for Morigaon, Jagiroad and Laharighat constituencies were dispatched from Morigaon College.
Of the total personnel deployed for the bypoll, 9,228 are polling and presiding officers and 2,307 are security personnel. The 2,307 polling stations are spread across Nagaon and Morigaon districts, with 1,339 located in Nagaon and 968 in Morigaon.
The administration has identified 624 polling stations as sensitive based on various security and other considerations. In Nagaon district, 54 micro-observers have been deployed to monitor the functioning of sensitive polling stations on polling day.
The Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency comprises eight Assembly segments spread across Nagaon and Morigaon districts and has a total of 19,02,009 registered voters. These include 9,58,595 male voters, 9,43,364 female voters and 50 third-gender voters. The constituency also has 10,782 D-voters.
At the field level, 203 sector officers and 53 zonal officers will oversee arrangements in their respective areas during polling.
The administration has also made arrangements for transportation and food for polling personnel. Vehicles for teams departing from Nagaon Government Higher Secondary Boys’ School have been arranged at Nehrubali playground, where food facilities have also been set up. For teams leaving from Dawson Higher Secondary Multi-Purpose School, vehicle parking has been arranged at Garufield.
A total of 584 small and large vehicles have been deployed exclusively for transporting polling teams in Nagaon district.
The administration has said arrangements have been put in place for the smooth and peaceful conduct of polling across the constituency.
Aranyak Saikia, Returning Officer for the Lok Sabha constituency by-election, appealed to voters to exercise their franchise freely and without influence and participate in the electoral process.
