Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while addressing a gathering at the BJP Vijay Sankalp Sabha held at Mudaibari in Udalguri on August 2, reiterated the party’s firm stance on contesting the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) elections independently. He asserted that the BJP will not ally with any political party and is strongly considering fielding candidates in all 40 constituencies across the region.
“In the last five years, we have successfully restored peace in the BTR. Our focus for the next five years is comprehensive development,” the Chief Minister declared, receiving thunderous applause from party workers and supporters.
Dispelling notions of rivalry with regional parties, Dr. Sarma clarified, “We do not consider UPPL or BPF as our enemies. But this time, the BJP is taking the BTR elections very seriously and will move forward on its own strength.”
Addressing deeper socio-political concerns, Dr. Sarma urged for a shift in political consciousness in the BTR. He appealed to indigenous Hindus, Muslims, and Christians to come together and “identify who their true enemies are” for the greater good of Assam and the BTR.
He further emphasized the need to treat every citizen of the BTR with dignity and equality. “All communities must be seen and treated as first-class citizens—with equal access to rights, benefits, and priorities,” he stated.
On the development front, Dr. Sarma announced that a government college is being constructed in Kalaigaon with an investment of ₹33 crore. “As per public demand, we are actively exploring the establishment of an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the region within the next five years,” he added, sparking hope for major academic and infrastructural growth.
