Assam Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Monday, January 5, while addressing party workers and the public during his campaign in Bongaigaon said that no leniency will be shown to encroachers and that a massive eviction drive will be soon conducted in the region.
The minister, during his campaign appealed voters in Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Dhubri and Nalbari districts to extend support to the ruling party as preparations gather pace for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
Dass cautioned individuals who have unlawfully occupied public land and are attempting to sell it, urging citizens to refrain from investing in such properties.
“The land under illegal occupation will be cleared shortly,” the minister said, making it clear that no leniency would be shown towards encroachments.
According to Dass, approximately 1,500 bighas of land in Bongaigaon district are currently under illegal occupation, and eviction operations will be carried out in the near future as part of the government’s ongoing drive to reclaim public land.
