No major disease outbreak reported in Assam flood-hit areas, says Union Minister Pabitra Margherita

Union Minister Pabitra Margherita on Sunday, August 16 said the Centre and Assam governments were closely monitoring water quality and public health in flood-affected areas of the state, with no severe or major disease outbreak reported so far.

Speaking on the flood situation in Jorhat, Margherita said 199 water samples had been collected from various sources by public health officials and tested to assess water quality and ensure the availability of safe drinking water.

He said health and relief measures were being undertaken across the affected areas, covering essential services ranging from drinking water supply to shelter arrangements.

“No severe or major disease outbreaks have been detected in the flood-affected areas so far,” Margherita said, adding that more than 500 medical camps had been organised in different flood-affected locations.

According to the Union Minister, doctors and medical teams have been conducting regular visits to the affected areas to monitor the health situation and ensure timely medical assistance.

He said the coordinated efforts of the central and state governments had helped improve the situation, with conditions gradually returning to normal in several areas.

The minister said continued surveillance of water quality and health conditions remained a priority as relief and rehabilitation measures continued in the flood-affected parts of Assam.
