Garima Saikia Garg, wife of late music legend Zubeen Garg, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Assam and fans across the globe for their unwavering support during her time of grief, while also raising doubts on the medical as well as security arrangements by Shyamkanu Mahanta for Zubeen Garg. “I am thankful to everyone who has stood by me during these difficult times. I hope people continue to support and love him in the same way in the future,” she said.
Recounting the moments after the incident on September 19, Garima said she immediately contacted Zubeen’s manager, Siddharth, but was unable to reach others as their phones were not connected. “Later, I received some information, but even after repeated requests, no one showed us what had really happened. Yet, in the following days, numerous videos and photos appeared online,” she said.
When asked about Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garima refrained from direct comments but expressed doubts about the arrangements made. “He took Zubeen under his responsibility but did not ensure proper care. There was no medical assistance, no security, and I even doubt he managed Zubeen’s diet. Everyone present, including his manager Siddharth, failed to notice how tired he was and still allowed him to swim. They should have intervened,” she added.
Concluding with determination, Garima said: “I have always learned strength from Zubeen. I will remain strong and fight for his justice. I want to know exactly what happened, and why.”
Garima reflected on Zubeen’s unfinished dreams, noting his deep aspirations for the youth, nature, and society. “Although he has left us, I will do my best to fulfil his dreams. Zubeen always considered nature divine, and his fans and the people of Assam were his greatest strength,” she added.
Highlighting the unity shown by people across religions, castes, and communities, she said the collective outpouring of love is also a call for justice for Zubeen’s untimely death.
On the much-anticipated musical film Roi Roi Binale, Garima confirmed that efforts are underway to complete its post-production. “Zubeen had planned to release the movie on October 31. The work has already begun, and it will soon be released in cinemas,” she stated.
Speaking on the ongoing investigations, Garima expressed confidence that justice would prevail. “The people of Assam and the police have been fighting for Zubeen’s justice since day one. I believe the government will take this case seriously. I have also been in contact with the Singapore police, and the Assam police have been actively investigating. I hope the truth comes to light, and I want to know exactly what happened on the day of the incident.”
She confirmed that she has filed an FIR against all those present during the incident. Referring to videos circulating online, Garima alleged that negligence led to Zubeen’s tragic death. “Zubeen was exhausted before swimming and entered the water without a life jacket. Those present should have stopped him—it was their responsibility to ensure his safety,” she stressed.
