‘Not a single paisa from Himanta’: Akhil Gogoi says all flood aid came from CM relief fund

Raijor Dal leader and Sivsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has launched a sharp attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over the government's response to the recent floods, alleging that the chief minister has failed to provide any separate flood relief assistance from the state government.

Gogoi claimed that the assistance extended to flood-affected people so far has come only through the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) and not as a separate flood relief package announced by the state government.

"The Chief Minister of Assam has not provided any flood relief so far. The assistance that has been given has come only from the CM Relief Fund, not as a separate flood relief package," Gogoi said.

He also claimed that Sarma had not personally contributed any money towards flood relief, accusing the chief minister of insulting the people of Assam and those who came forward voluntarily to support flood-affected families.

"This means the Chief Minister has not contributed even a single rupee personally for flood relief. The Chief Minister has insulted the people of Assam. He has insulted the Assamese people who came forward to help flood-affected families. He has insulted the spirit of humanity of the Assamese people," Gogoi said.

The Raijor Dal leader also accused Sarma of behaving "like a king", intensifying his criticism of the chief minister's style of functioning.

Gogoi further questioned the legality of a directive issued by the chief minister to the Assam Police, asserting that executive instructions cannot override constitutional principles.

"The directive issued by the Chief Minister to the Assam Police is illegal. In a democracy, the words of a king are not the law. The Constitution is the supreme source of law," he said.

His remarks come amid an intense political debate over the Assam government's handling of the flood situation, with opposition parties questioning the adequacy and transparency of relief measures.

The Assam government has not yet responded specifically to Gogoi's allegations.
