Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 20 while commenting on Rahul Gandhi losing out the Amethi seat to BJP which has been a Congress stronghold for a very long time said that the leader did not serve the people well and hence the people voted him out.
Sharing a video of Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on X where the leader is seen speaking on Rahul Gandhi's decision of contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, CM Sarma wrote, "Speaking from my heart: People do not make mistakes; we, politicians, do wrong. The people of Amethi did not make a mistake; the so-called leader did not serve them well, and so they voted him out. Leaders reform themselves and come before the electorate with humility again, apologising for past mistakes. Sometimes people forgive, sometimes not. Politics is all about humility, not arrogance".
Expressing that it is not the people who do wrong but the politicians who have not served the people at their best, CM Sarma exclaimed that Rahul Gandhi did no serve the people of Amethi well and hence lost the seat to BJP's Smriti Irani. Sarma further exclaimed that politics is all about humility and not arrogance.
Union Minister and incumbent MP Smriti Irani challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday to contest from his former constituency, Amethi. Irani accused Gandhi of insulting the people of Amethi and neglecting the constituency. S
he dared him to contest alone from Amethi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Irani also claimed that the people of Amethi expressed their anger towards Gandhi when his Nyay Yatra's convoy arrived to empty streets. She further quoted that Amethi has received an investment of Rs 6523 crore in the Investors Summit and the people's discontent towards the Gandhi family is evident. She highlighted the lack of support for Gandhi in Amethi, as seen from the empty streets during his arrival.
