Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 28 addressed recent developments surrounding the probe into the death of cultural icon Zubeen Garg, urging political restraint at a sensitive time for the state.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said, “At a time when the people of Assam are emotionally affected, it is not appropriate to engage in politics. It is also not right for some individuals in Assam to use any incident as an opportunity to make their name 'popular' by doing certain things.”
The remarks come amid widespread public attention and a variety of statements from political and social quarters regarding the circumstances of Zubeen Garg’s sudden demise on September 19 in Singapore. Sarma’s comments stressed the importance of focusing on the investigation rather than turning the issue into a matter of political leverage.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring a transparent investigation and bringing justice if any wrongdoing is found.
