An oil tanker carrying petroleum products was completely gutted after catching fire following a head-on collision with an LPG cylinder-laden vehicle on National Highway 37 at Rajabari in Assam's Bokakhat.
The accident reportedly occurred when the tanker, which was travelling from the Numaligarh Refinery, collided with the LPG vehicle on the highway.
Following the impact, the oil tanker caught fire and was completely destroyed. The LPG-laden vehicle also suffered partial damage in the collision.
After receiving information from local residents, police and fire and emergency service personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.
The incident triggered a major traffic disruption on NH-37, with vehicles travelling between Upper and Lower Assam remaining stranded for a considerable period.
No official information on casualties has been received so far. The exact cause of the collision is yet to be ascertained.
