One detained in Rs 37 lakh betel nut theft case in Assam's Rupahihat

Rupahihat Police in Assam's Nagaon district have detained a man in connection with the alleged theft of betel nuts worth around Rs 37 lakh, police said.
The detained person has been identified as Jiyabur Rahman, a resident of Teliachaparitoop. He was detained based on a complaint filed by Khairul Islam.
According to reports, Rahman is allegedly linked to the illegal trade of Burmese betel nuts. Police suspect that he is one of several persons involved in the theft.
The case has also triggered allegations that a DSP posted in Guwahati and a resident of Rupahihat attempted to intervene on Rahman's behalf. The officer reportedly arrived at Rupahihat Police Station in a black vehicle but left after noticing journalists and cameras.
Police are questioning Rahman as part of the investigation and are attempting to identify and apprehend other persons allegedly involved in the theft.
