Assam cabinet minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on March 23 said the upcoming Assam Assembly elections are crucial for ensuring both security and development in the state, while raising concerns over demographic changes.
Speaking to reporters, the minister stated that the previous mandate given to the National Democratic Alliance had enabled the government to initiate several development projects across Assam. He emphasised that the next phase of governance would require a stronger focus on safeguarding the state’s interests.
Mallabaruah flagged demographic change as a key issue, asserting that measures must be taken to address the situation and protect the rights of indigenous communities. He maintained that such objectives could be effectively achieved under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He also expressed confidence in public support, stating that people continue to trust the leadership of the Chief Minister and the NDA government ahead of the elections.
The remarks come as political campaigning intensifies across Assam, with parties sharpening their narratives around development, identity, and governance in the run-up to the polls.
