Assam Excise Department has unearthed a massive racket involved in the illegal smuggling of liquor from Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh into Tamulpur district.
The operation has led to the seizure of 1,000 cases of illicit liquor, along with a substantial quantity of counterfeit holograms and labels valued at ₹0.76 crore.
Acting on specific intelligence, excise teams conducted extensive search operations across the district, uncovering the widespread smuggling network. The seized liquor consignments were being illegally brought into Assam, evading excise duties and posing a potential health hazard due to the suspected adulteration.
The crackdown is part of the state's ongoing efforts to curb the smuggling of illicit liquor, which not only causes substantial revenue losses but also poses severe health risks to consumers. Authorities are determined to dismantle the entire smuggling network and bring the perpetrators to justice.
