With only a few days left for the Legislative Assembly elections, political activities have intensified across the region, with parties stepping up efforts to strengthen their organisational base and attract voters.
On March 22, a massive joining programme of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was held at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in New Colony of Assam's Margherita.
More than 300 people from different parts of the 83 No. Margherita Legislative Assembly constituency, including members from tea garden areas and the Adivasi/tea community, joined the BJP.
Among the prominent entrants was Rupa Chetry, the lone Congress ward member from Borgolai Gaon Panchayat, who joined the BJP along with over 300 workers from the Indian National Congress and Aam Aadmi Party.
The welcome address was delivered by Sukhdev Sharma, President of Margherita BJP Town Mandal, while the programme was moderated by Simanta Madhav Kataky, General Secretary of the Town Mandal.
Bhaskar Sharma, MLA of Margherita constituency, formally welcomed the new members into the party.
Several senior leaders, including Bhim Karmakar, Tara Prasad Dehingia, Harinanda Gorh, and Dhiraj Sonowal, along with mandal presidents, were also present at the programme.
