The counting of votes for the Panchayat elections began on the morning of May 11 in Assam’s Bongaigaon district. The vote counting is underway at two designated centres — Bongaigaon College and Abhayeswari Higher Secondary School.
The district is witnessing the counting of results for 12 Zila Parishad seats, 65 Anchalik Panchayat member posts, and 650 Panchayat member positions.
Of these, one Zila Parishad member, 10 Anchalik Panchayat members, and 47 Panchayat members were elected unopposed.
Meanwhile, Paridhi Sharma, known across Assam’s literary circles by the pen name Dhruvajyoti Saikia, has made a successful debut in grassroots politics by winning the ward member seat from No. 6 under the Dikhow Mukh Gaon Panchayat.
Sharma, whose writings under the pseudonym Dr. Paridhi Sharma once stirred state-wide discourse, contested the Panchayat elections with the backing of the Congress party. Sharma’s win signals a shift from literary engagement to active political participation.
