Panic spread across Jorhat town on Thursday morning, November 27 after a Royal Bengal Tiger was reportedly sighted near the Maloali area, triggering alarm among residents. The tiger was seen wandering on the Bhogdoi Bridge during the early morning hours, according to a local youth who first spotted the animal on the main road.
The sudden appearance of the big cat in a densely populated area has left the community on edge, with residents fearing potential attacks. Panic continues to grip in the adjoining localities as word of the sighting spreads rapidly.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Forest Department immediately initiated a search and rescue operation. Multiple teams have been deployed around probable movement zones, and drone surveillance is being considered to track the animal’s location.
Authorities have issued public advisories urging residents to remain cautious, avoid isolated paths, and report any additional sightings without delay. Officials are working to ensure the safety of both the public and the tiger, which may have strayed from its natural habitat in search of food or territory.
Further details are awaited as the operation to locate and safely capture the tiger is underway.
