Police personnel falls ill at Assam's Nagaon counting centre, alleged lack of ambulance raises questions

Amid the ongoing vote counting process in Assam, serious concerns emerged over emergency preparedness at a counting centre in Nagaon district after an on-duty police personnel reportedly collapsed due to illness.

The incident took place at the Government Boys School counting centre in Nagaon, where the police personnel allegedly remained unattended for nearly 20 minutes.

According to reports from the spot, no ambulance was available at the counting centre despite heavy deployment of security and election staff for the crucial counting exercise.

The situation reportedly changed only after media personnel noticed the incident, following which the ailing police personnel was shifted to a hospital in a private vehicle for medical treatment.

The incident has sparked questions over the preparedness and emergency response arrangements made by the district administration at one of the key counting centres during the high-stakes Assam Assembly election result day.
