Pravin Togadia calls for DNA tests, deportation of 50 lakh illegal Bangladeshis ahead of Assam polls

In a sharp and politically charged address ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, Antar Rashtriya Hindu Parishad leader Dr Pravin Bhai Togadia on Thursday, January 29 called for what he described as decisive action against illegal immigration from Bangladesh, urging the state government to act swiftly and firmly.

Speaking to the media after attending a workers’ conference organised by the Antar Rashtriya Hindu Parishad and Rashtriya Bajrang Dal of Bongaigaon and Chirang districts, held at the Abhayapuri Kala Parishad Bhawan in Bongaigaon, Dr Togadia made a series of strong remarks targeting the issue of alleged illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Assam.

Dr Togadia appealed to Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to conduct DNA tests on what he claimed were 50 lakh illegal Bangladeshis residing in the state and to deport them to Dhaka before the upcoming Assembly elections. Invoking Assam’s historical legacy, he drew a parallel with legendary Ahom general Lachit Borphukan’s resistance against the Mughals, urging the Chief Minister to take similarly resolute steps to “drive out” illegal immigrants.

He further linked the issue to the ongoing electoral process, asserting that if 50 lakh alleged illegal Bangladeshis were deported to Bangladesh, there would be no need for the Special Revision (SR) of electoral rolls in Assam.

The remarks come amid heightened political debate over immigration, voter verification, and demographic concerns in the state.
