With the 2026 Assam Assembly elections approaching soon, the Congress has stepped up its organisational preparedness, launching a statewide training drive aimed at strengthening booth-level structures and consolidating grassroots networks. As part of this initiative, a special training camp was held on Thursday, February 12 at the Goroimari Regional Community Hall under the 27 No. Chamaria Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC), drawing senior leaders, aspirants and grassroots workers.
The programme forms part of a broader strategy by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) to energise party cadres and streamline electoral management across constituencies. Significantly, senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who heads the AICC Screening Committee for Assam, is expected to visit the state shortly to oversee preparations and review the candidate selection process.
The Chamaria camp witnessed the participation of several Congress ticket aspirants and senior leaders, including Chhaygaon MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed, APCC spokesperson Aman Wadud, advocates Rafiqul Islam and Kurban Ali, APCC Kisan Morcha vice-president Mehebub Ali, and former MLAs Gopinath Das and Fazlur Rahman.
National booth management trainer Ayush Pandey conducted technical sessions focusing on election preparedness, booth-level coordination and voter outreach mechanisms. APCC media coordinator Happy Gogoi and Kamrup district Congress observer Anowar Hussain addressed party workers on strengthening grassroots organisation and maintaining message discipline.
Local leadership was strongly represented, with Goroimari Block Congress president Nurul Islam, Chamaria Block Congress president Taizuddin Ahmed, Kamrup District Congress Seva Dal president Ajirul Sarkar, and Zila Parishad members Asmina Haque Choudhury and Hazrat Ali participating in the deliberations.
Speaking to the media, MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed said all 19 mandals, booth-level workers and aspirants from the Chamaria constituency attended the workshop. He further informed that the Congress Election Committee will convene its first meeting on February 16 at Rajiv Bhavan in Guwahati.
Ahmed levelled serious allegations against the ruling BJP-led government, claiming that attempts were being made to undermine democratic processes through manipulation of voter lists, including alleged use of deceased voters’ data and voter list transfers. He asserted that the training programme was designed to equip party workers with the skills to counter such “systematic efforts” and safeguard electoral integrity.
On the issue of voter deletions, Ahmed alleged that large-scale removals were being carried out in parts of Assam, targeting particular communities. He maintained that the Congress remains committed to protecting the rights of all communities and ensuring a fair electoral process.
