Congress candidate from the Dispur Assembly constituency, Mira Borthakur Goswami, on Tuesday, March 31, questioned the credibility of the BJP’s election manifesto, asserting that the public no longer places trust in its promises.
Referring to the BJP’s vision document, she said it included commitments such as the implementation of the Sixth Schedule and provisions linked to the Assam Accord, but alleged that these assurances have failed to convince voters. “The public does not rely on the BJP’s manifesto,” she said.
Addressing remarks by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Goswami accused the ruling party of fostering division. She alleged that while the BJP speaks about polarisation, it simultaneously creates an atmosphere of fear among communities.
The Congress leader further expressed confidence in her party’s prospects in the state, stating that a government would be formed under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi.
