Questions have been raised over the functioning of the Laokhowa Chapori Police Station in Assam's Nagaon district after the police station was allegedly found locked during night hours.
According to local residents, the police station, which is expected to remain operational round the clock to serve the public, is often found closed at night, forcing people to return without being able to lodge complaints or FIRs.
Visuals from the night of June 26 reportedly show the main gate of the police station locked, despite important case records and official documents being kept inside the premises.
Residents alleged that people arriving at the police station during the night to report complaints or seek police assistance are unable to access the facility due to the locked entrance.
The alleged closure of the police station during night hours has raised concerns over public access to emergency policing services and the security of official records kept inside the premises. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
